Apply your extensive counselling experience and highly developed interpersonal skills to support students’ wellbeing.

We are a new world university. Like our namesake, Charles Darwin, we think differently. We innovate, embrace change, challenge conventions and look for better ways. We’re not about tradition or legacy, privilege or exclusivity. We care about people as individuals, and about our wider society. We’re about what we can give to the world, rather than what we take. We cannot build a new world without diversity of thought, so we bring together people with unique perspectives in an inclusive and supporting learning environment to help them connect, discover and grow. This is the CDU difference.

Within a small team of three Counsellors, you will provide professional counselling support to CDU students either in person, or via telephone or online. Your extensive and diverse counselling experience and highly developed interpersonal skills will provide you with the ability to assist students to develop skills to manage personal issues that may be impacting on their academic performance and general wellbeing. This will also involve liaising with relevant CDU staff and/or external individuals or agencies as appropriate and necessary under strict confidentiality guidelines.

Completion of a relevant degree (e.g. Psychology or Social Work) and registration or eligibility for registration with the relevant professional body AHPRA (Psychology), or AASW (Social Work) is essential. The ability to communicate effectively in a cross-cultural environment, maintain client confidentiality and demonstrate contemporary knowledge of the relevant legislation under which the University operates will also be critical to your success.
